Goal is to improve football event
Author: HOWARD RICHMAN; Staff Writer

To better promote its high school all-star football game, the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association has asked for the help of a professional.

Gary Heise Sports Productions has been given the responsibility of improving - perhaps saving - the Metro Dream Classic.

"We need to do a good job getting a major sponsor," Blue Springs Coach Wayne McGinnis said. "I feel farther ahead than last year. " The Metro Dream Classic, a summer football game matching the top seniors from Missouri against Kansas, was played for the first time last year. It was played at Arrowhead Stadium and drew an estimated 4,800. The Chiefs had told the coaches association it needed 10,000 if it wanted to return to Arrowhead. The game has been given a reprieve by the Chiefs and is scheduled to be played again on July 17 at Arrowhead. It was played June 13 last year.

"I definitely think it can work," said Heise, who is a former director of public and community relations for the Chiefs. "The coaches were trying to do everything. We'll try to manage it better. It's obvious we need more than 5,000 people to make it work. " Heise's company has had its hand in several sports activities.

It helped the NFL bring back the Punt, Pass and Kick competition.

It also coordinated the Cheifs' 101 Banquet and assists in the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission's banquet.
