Kansas has the home field for Dream football game
Author: BILL RICHARDSON
In the first two years of the Metro Dream high school football game, Kansas high school seniors defeated their Missouri counterparts at Arrowhead Stadium. Now the Kansas squad has what could be called a home-field advantage.
The all-stars meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Blue Valley Northwest High School at 135th Street and Switzer in Overland Park.
The switch was necessary because Arrowhead is undergoing a change from artificial turf to grass, and the field won't be ready until later this month.
"I don't know if we have the (home-field) advantage or not," said Bishop Miege Coach Paul Brown, who is directing the Kansas squad. "Some of our coaches point out that Missouri has more schools. Both teams have very talented players. We had excellent games the first two years, and I look for another good one. " The squads are composed of 45 players, many decorated with all-state honors and headed for college football in the fall. Brown said that the teams represent a cross-section of th e area because no schoool can be represented by more than five players. The Missouri squad is coached by Keith Ross of Oak Park.
Brown said the Blue Valley Northwest stadium seats 4,500, and about 1,000 portable bleacher seats will be added. Tickets cost $5 in advance at Jones Store outlets and $7 at the gate. Proceeds benefit the Dream Factory.
