Blue Valley quarterback comes through in all-star game Parker obtains confidence in Dream Classic triumph
Author: DAVID BOYCE; Staff Writer

For the second year in a row, a Blue Valley quarterback led the Kansas all-stars to a victory in the Metro Dream Classic football game.

That point wasn't lost on Jason Parker, who started at quarterback and completed nine of 17 passes for 64 yards for the Kansas squad in a 17-2 triumph over Missouri Saturday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

"I was thinking about that," Parker said. "All the credit goes to Coach (Steve) Rampy with what he did with both of us.

"We use a lot of misdirection. It's different from what a lot of teams are used to playing against. It's a great offense to play for. " Last year, Brian Schottenheimer led Kansas to a 41-12 victory. Schottenheimer now plays football for the University of Kansas.

Parker's college football career is drawing near, but he still has one more high school game left before he heads to William Jewell. Parker will play quarterback for the East squad in the annual Kansas Shrine Bowl Aug. 7 in Wichita.

Parker said playing well in all-star games is a confidence booster.

"This game gave me a lot of confidence," he said. "Being able to play with people of this caliber helps your confidence. " Kansas pride Bill Freund and Brandon Durland, both of whom graduated this spring from Shawnee Mission North, were proud of the fact that Kansas easily beat Missouri for the second straight time in the Metro Dream Classic.
Each player played a part in the victory. Freund played on a defense that completely shutdown the Missouri attack, and Durland led all rushers with 68 yards.

"We really just shut them down," Freund said. "Their only two points came on a safety. I call that a shutout.

"Missouri has all the Division I players. Everybody was saying how Missouri was going to win. We just wanted to prove we were the better team. " Durland said he thought the game was going to be closer.

"Once we got on top, we knew we were going to win," Durland said. "We had a better attitude. "
