Dream Classic game gets attendance boost
Author: HOWARD RICHMAN; Staff Writer
More occupied seats at the Metro Dream Classic High School All-Star Football Game made at least one person very happy.
A bigger crowd was a good sign, Blue Springs Coach Wayne McGinnis said. The announced attendance of 7,441 at the game July 17 at Arrowhead Stadium was 3,000 more than last year, the first time the game was played. Chiefs officials said from the start 10,000 was needed to keep the game at Arrowhead, and although it took a total of two years to get there and the Chiefs allowed the game to come back this year, McGinnis said a crowd of 10,000 can happen eventually. He just hopes the Chiefs show some patience.
"We're getting more people in the stands, and interest seemed to be up," he said. "I'm confident we'll have it again next year. " McGinnis coached the Missouri team, which lost to Kansas 17-2. Kansas leads the series 2-0.
"Except for the score, I thought everything went great," he said.
Future kicker?
Nathan Thomas might have a future as a place-kicker.
Thomas, 7, is the son of Bishop Hogan football Coach Greg Thomas. Nathan booted a 5-yard field goal and received a brand new football for doing so at the Metro Dream Classic High School All-Star Football Game played July 17 at Arrowhead Stadium.
